With a background in elementary education and experience as both a classroom teacher and homeschool mom, I created Wit & Whimsy to give learners something I believe they need more of: opportunities to be curious, get hands-on, think deeply, and discover just how exciting learning can be.

I hold a Master’s degree in Education and formerly taught in Fairfax County Public Schools. Over the years, my journey in education has taken me from the traditional classroom to homeschooling and, ultimately, to creating Wit & Whimsy.

Throughout those experiences, one thing has remained constant:

I love finding the spark that makes a child want to know more.

I’ve had the opportunity to teach children with a wide range of strengths, personalities, and learning profiles, including neurodivergent learners with ADHD, autism, dyslexia, and other learning differences. Those experiences have shaped my commitment to creating learning environments that are flexible, strengths-based, and neuroaffirming.

But here’s something I believe strongly: what supports one learner often makes learning better for everyone.

Hands-on experiences, movement, visual supports, meaningful choices, opportunities to collaborate, and different ways to participate aren’t simply “accommodations” added for certain children. They are thoughtful ways of designing learning that can help all children engage, connect, and discover what works for them.

Wit & Whimsy is not a specialized therapeutic or special education program, and every experience may not be the right fit for every learner. When a child may need additional support, I welcome conversations with families so we can talk openly about their needs and determine together whether a particular program and environment will be a good fit.

Why Wit & Whimsy?

Wit & Whimsy grew from my belief that learning can be academically meaningful without feeling confined to a traditional classroom experience.

Here, literature might become a courtroom where students examine evidence and put a fairytale character on trial. Science might happen inside a candy laboratory. Geography might begin with a passport and a discovery trunk. Entrepreneurship might culminate in a real community marketplace.

The themes may be whimsical, but the learning behind them is intentional.

Through Learning Labs, Discovery Days, and Curiosity Circles, I create experiences that invite children to explore ideas, engage through hands-on discovery, think creatively, solve problems, collaborate, and build confidence as learners.

I don’t want children simply completing activities.

I want them wondering what happens next.

Beyond the Learning Lab

I’m also a wife and mom of two, and my own family’s educational journey has had a tremendous influence on the educator I am today.

Becoming a homeschool parent gave me the opportunity to experience education through a different lens. It challenged me to think more deeply about what learning can look like when we have room to follow curiosity, respond to individual strengths and needs, and sometimes take an unexpected path to reach a meaningful destination.

Wit & Whimsy brings together so many pieces of who I am: my years in education, my love of curriculum and creative program design, my experience as a homeschool parent, my passion for supporting children as individuals, and my tendency to look at an ordinary lesson and immediately start imagining what it could become.

Courtrooms. Laboratories. Passports. Potions. Mysteries. Marketplaces.

There’s usually an adventure waiting somewhere.
